![]() ![]() This tells me that the Router is not the obstacle after all. I have further discovered that I can wake my Mac using an iOS app to send the Wake packet. By using this function I am able to awake my Macs, so it is quite obvious that "wake for network access" DOES work, as long as the correct packet is sent.Īny idea why this router would not allow a Mac to wake another directly? I have discovered that there is a "Wake on LAN" function within the router options. Any suggestion as to what I should be checking next?Īfter mentioning the new router in this post, I've decided to take a closer look at the router settings. Click the Apple menu in the system menu bar. Obviously, on both Macs, "wake for network access" is enabled. Ensure that Wake for Wi-Fi network access and/or Wake for network access is enabled. When the Macs are awake, file and screen sharing work as advertised, but as soon as one goes to sleep I am unable to wake it, and access it, from the other Mac (or from my iPad). So, this setting has saved me from the hell and thought to share with you. ![]() ![]() You don’t need to put your macbook on “Never sleep” mode as it will severely affect your battery performance and really not good option to go for. Once you uncheck this option, your macbook will stay connected to WiFi network even in sleep mode. ![]() Update: On macOS Monterey, Power Adapter option is available under “Battery”īasically under energy saving option, apple disconnects WiFi network to save the battery and it is checked by default. So uncheck it to have network access even with sleep mode and not just when system is awake. This option really sounds confusing and it feels like this option must be checked in order to “Keep system wake for the network access” but actually it means that “Your system must be awake for the network access”. I opened system preferences -> energy Saver -> power adapter and I saw this option “Wake for WiFi network access”. Then yesterday, I suddenly found this option and it worked like rain drops in the desert. But even after making it as preferred network, problem did not went away. Basically this link says, WiFi network that you connected to, should be your preferred network. Unfortunately it did not work out for me. I got this link from the web and I followed step by step guide given in this nice tutorial. I thought okay, now I know the problem, I just go to system preferences and uncheck WiFi sleep mode like I am familiar with android devices but there was no such option and then I started searching on Google for this problem.
